St. Helens Tips
Good Food, Good Prices
Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:48pmThe Village Inn Restaurant is under new management and making a comeback! The breakfast menu is large and varied -- the steak and eggs are exceptional! It's food that makes you feel good, and the coffee is bottomless and good. The bar has a happy hour menu with, among other things, a cheesy cheeseburger for $2.99 that is thick, meaty and comes with seasoned waffle fries! The onion rings were perfect! They just started an all-you-can-eat lunch bar -- including salad, soup, several entrees and delicious cookies and brownies. The food has a home-cooked quality and actually has taste! The staff is very friendly and greet you at the door with a big smile. It has now become my restaurant of choice in the area. I can't wait until they open for dinner!

Gelato~Ice Cream~Fudge~Olde Time Candy~Delicatessen
Sat, 11/07/2009 - 4:04pmA neat little place tucked in Olde Town St. Helens!! They make wonderful deli sandwiches and have a pretty decent selection of different flavors of Gelato and Ice Cream!! A nice stop after doing some shopping downtown or taking a walk down by the river!! They also have artwork for sale, fun to walk around and see the different paintings, etc that are available!
GREAT FOOD and GREAT SERVICE!! (klondikerestaurant.com)
Sat, 11/07/2009 - 3:33pmThe food here is EXCELLENT!! A nice selection from Steaks to Seafood to Salads. Like thier website says, "delicious American food served in a Casual Atmosphere"!! We've only been there a few times (we really need to go more often!), so haven't tried out the entire menu, but can tell you they make THE best Rueben's on the West coast!! And they are served with their delicious handcut fries!! Delicious food, great service, nice atmosphere!! Also, the last time we went was on a Saturday night and they had live music, it was GREAT!! We just LOVE this place!! :)
GREAT FOOD!! (docksideontheriver.com)
Sat, 11/07/2009 - 3:15pmHave lived in the area for over 3 yrs now and just tried this place out, WOW, some of THE BEST FOOD I have eaten in my entire life!!!! We started out with Ben’s Almost World Famous Avocado Spinach Dip that came with french bread slices, absolutely wonderful!!!! I had the Southern Fried Chicken Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing, which was loaded with all kinds of things and very delicious... my husband had the Meat Lovers Spaghetti (which came with a choice of soup or salad) which smelled absolutely wonderful and I guess tasted really good, he quite enjoyed it!!!! They have a nice selection of seafood dishes and also a steak menu...plus they have a full bar and a great Happy Hour menu!! It's close to the river, so you can see the ships as they go by. A small restuarant with a very nice atmosphere!!
Start Your Twilight Tour Here
Mon, 11/02/2009 - 2:11pmThese murals blend right in to Olde Towne Saint Helens and look like they've always been there. Is it Saint Helens or St. Helens? Anyway, you can leave your car right at the scene of Bella's rescue to scope out the other nearby film spots and talk up the locals. Apparently almost everyone in town has read the books. Maybe that doesn't distinguish them so much from any other town, but they are happy to tell you about having Twilight filmed there and a few have some eerie stories about local ghosts. Halloweentown was also filmed there. Now the town becomes Halloweentown every October.
Great Place, Adults and Kids
Sun, 08/30/2009 - 8:07amI really liked McCormick Park, and not just because it's where I spent the majority of my elementary school days. Just outside McCormick park is a skate park, two baseball fields, and a library. Once you're officially in the park, there's a volleyball area, two large fields, picnick areas, and a nice playground. If you want some good excerise, jog the dirt path around the park, that stops by 20 or so "Work out" stations. If it's a hot day, you can head down to the creek, where small fish and crawfish can be found if you're still enough. Overall, I really like the area. My whole family can go, and none of us would be bored. As I'm playing soccer with my friends in the feild to the left of the playground, my sisters are swinging away, while my parents are enjoying a good book or talking to other parents near the picnick tables. 3 years ago the local elementary school's "Garden Group" made a Memorial Day garden there, planting red, white and blue flowers around a statue, and planting other flowers around the area. It's a good place for reunions as well.
Local Microbrews now on tap!
Thu, 05/21/2009 - 1:18pmPlantation House Pizza is now serving up locally brewed beers. Brewmaster Dylan Goldsmith has created five varieties so far, including Nob Hill Blond, Warrior Rock IPA and Flying Eagle Amber, using mostly local ingredients. The beer is great. The food is great. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is prompt. This place is going to be one of St. Helens' best hangouts.
The Klondike has great food!
Thu, 05/21/2009 - 1:18pmWe've been to the Klondike several times in the past few months. The food and service are always great. I love the salads and the small plates menu. My husband says the steaks are always cooked perfectly. If you go, plan on spending an hour or more enjoying a relaxing dining experience, and save room for dessert! All their desserts are made in-house or by Houlton Bakery in St. Helens.
Back to Basics
Wed, 04/15/2009 - 8:20amThe Klondike has returned to its roots as a restaurant and bar. They experimented with Mediterranean cuisine, which didn't fit in rural St. Helens. Conveniently located near the Columbia River docks.
Getting even Better
Wed, 04/15/2009 - 8:20amThe Klondike is getting even better. The steak and seafood is wonderful, but the weekly specials for both lunch and dinner are nice. The food is all fresh made in house. I really enjoy the Prime Rib on Friday night. The servers are cheerful and fun. There are 9 beers on tap...yeah!
Good food, good service
Wed, 04/15/2009 - 8:20amThe Klondike has been many different things, including a fantastic bar, a mediterranean restaurant and now a steakhouse. Although many locals miss the peanut-shells-on-the-floor days, the current owners have put together a great recipe for success: good food and good service in an interesting environment.
Bloated Toad
Fri, 01/23/2009 - 2:52pmI'm not sure the google map shows this properly. This location is a private residence and is visible from the city owned Olde Towne parking lot across from the Columbia Theatre... the same place where Bella was surrounded and Edward came to her rescue.
Google map doesn't seem right
Sat, 12/13/2008 - 1:31pmFirst, S. 6th street is not a through street. Second, the pin shows up farther in from Columbia Blvd. than it actually is. It's really just right there, less than a block in.
Weird Hair Cafe
Sat, 12/13/2008 - 11:01amSo, after the high speed car ride (that was really poor judgement Edward...Bella's not immortal), Edward takes Bella to a little place for some dinner. You know, the scene with the weird haired waitress. Supposedly, that place was created in the BOLDR office. It's really an old house.
Jilly's
Fri, 12/12/2008 - 10:34pmWOa! So many dresses and wigs and any kind of adornment you can think of. What is this place doing out here? Well, selling prom dresses to the Twilight crew, of course! But seriously, its like walking into Mary Poppins' hand bag. There's just more and more and more. Vintage, costume, trendy.... all there.
Petite Jolie
Fri, 12/12/2008 - 10:11pmIn the book, Bella and friends find a department store. But in the Twiliight movie the girls try on prom dresses in Petite Jolie. In real life this is Angel's Hair Salon. But step inside to see Catherine Hardwicke's director chair. It's still in there. And the owner can tell you about her role as an extra. I didn't get my hair cut. But I bet I could have learned even more if I had.
Best Thai Food in Town
Wed, 10/15/2008 - 10:52amGreat food and inexpensive.
